How Does it Work?

FAWSsit™ Portable Showers set the industry standard for ease of use. The units come completely assembled so no tools or construction are required. The only requirements for a safe, complete, satisfying shower are access to a sink and access to an electric outlet to run the attached pump.

Set up is simple:

  1. Set the unit anywhere within 10 ft. reach of a standard sink, and unfold the sides. And if a greater distance is required, just let us know and we will custom manufacture a unit with longer hoses for both the shower head and drain hose.
  2. Drop the attached vinyl drain pan to the floor and secure the sides with simple Velcro straps. Leave the front open to allow for easy roll in of the wheelchair.
  3. Back the person in the wheelchair into the shower stall, then drop the hinged front support bar down to form the fourth support for the drain pan, and attach the pan with the Velcro strips.
  4. Close the shower curtain in front for privacy, or leave it off to the side for easier caregiver access, as determined by the individual client’s needs and capabilities.
  5. Attach the shower head faucet cup to the sink faucet, and plug the frame-mounted pump into a grounded, 3-prong outlet. Place the waste water drain hose in the sink and secure it with the suction cup.
  6. Set the water temperature at the sink and turn on the pump to remove the waste water while showering.
  7. Shower away!!
  8. When the shower is completed, simply turn off the faucet, detach the front Velcro strips of the drain pan, lift the bar, and roll out! NO WAITING FOR PAN DRAINAGE!! If a small amount of water remains in the pan, you may leave the pump running, but the pan is designed to prevent waste water from exiting the pan when the wheelchair is rolled out.
  9. After the client’s needs for getting dried off are addressed, simply turn off the pump, take a light wash rag to wipe any water drops from the curtain and pan, then reverse the process to fold the unit away for storage.

The FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Shower stalls from Stairbusters.com are manufactured by Care Giver Support Product, LLC for use by individuals with disabilities who find that traditional bathing facilities are difficult or impossible to use, and who may not be able to do re-modeling of the bathroom to allow for full accessibility.  Additional FAWSsit™ models are designed for emergency services or HazMat. All FAWSsit™ models are completely wheelchair accessible and portable, requiring NO tools or modifications to a site for use.

The FAWSsit™ portable showers are complete shower facilities. They can be set up anywhere there is access to warm water.  Oftentimes, the kitchen is the preferred room to use as there is usually more room to move around the shower than there is in a bathroom.  A bedroom or a laundry room, or any room that is within about 10 – 12 feet of a sink can also work.

Important to note that the FAWSsit™ Portable Showers are the ONLY truly portable showers, and the ONLY fully assembled showers available in the market. NO ASSEMBLY or construction is required, NO TOOLS are required, and the frames are made of unbreakable anodized aluminum, designed for long-term use. Only the FAWSsit™ Portable Showers can withstand multiple years of repeat use with no degradation in frame structure or function. All FAWSsit™ frames come with a full 10 year warranty against defects.

There are currently five (5) separate models of the FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers:  Standard S2000, Super Standard SS4040, Recliner R3000, Tall T4000, and Bariatric B5000.

With any of the FAWSsit™ models, the person to be bathed can be rolled into the shower stall in either a shower/commode style of wheelchair, or even just a regular wheelchair.  With the R3000 Recliner model, a reclining style of wheelchair or even a gurney can be rolled in.  Once inside the shower stall, a front support bar is lowered so that the fourth side of the shower pan can be attached for waste water collection.  A front shower curtain may be brought around for the person who is able to do their own bathing, or may be left open for easier caregiver access to assist with the bathing.

The source of water for the shower unit is any standard sink faucet.  A shower head with approximately 12 feet of hose and a universal adapter to allow for connection to the sink faucet  is provided with every shower unit.  And, there is a pump which pulls the waste water from the drain pan.  There is a 12 foot hose attached to the pump unit which then returns the waste water to the sink drain for disposal.  A GFI plug protects the pump unit in case of any electrical failure.  To assure safety,  theFAWSsit™ shower has been tested by Underwriter Laboratories (UL) and it complies with all of their requirements for safety.

While primarily intended for use at home for people who cannot or choose not to do complete bathroom re-modeling, the FAWSsit™ portable showers are also the perfect travel shower and can even be used for hazardous materials decontamination or emergency services.

Most importantly, the FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Shower offers a lot of medical benefits, including:

  • Healthier skin
  • Decreased infections
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved mental and emotional health
  • SAFE

Shower Models

FAWSsit-S2000 Standard

Standard Model

36″x36″48″
For use by individuals weighing up to approximately 220 lbs and who do not require footrests on the wheelchair

Designed for any individual who can sit comfortably in a standard sized wheelchair. This model enables the user to either do their own bathing, with the enclosure of a full privacy curtain, or to have the assistance of a care attendant who can reach in and assist in the bathing without having to get into the shower with the person in a wheelchair. The front curtain can be left open to enable easy caregiver access, and only the FAWSsit™ design directs the waste water to the back of the pan for easy and complete removal with the safe frame-attached waste water removal pump. The shower head can be either frame mounted or hand-held to facilitate complete water access for bathing.

FAWSsit-SS4040 Super Standard

Super Standard Model

42″x42″48″
For use by individuals weighing up to approximately 300 lbs, or who may require the use of footrests on the wheelchair

Slightly larger than S2000 for those that need just a bit more room. Meets the needs of wheelchair users who do not require a tilt back shower wheelchair. Allows room for wheelchair foot pads as well as the wheelchair.

With the same caregiver access and usability features as the S2000 Standard model, this unit also allows for quick set up, easy roll in, and immediate roll out after the shower is completed. The unique pan design for all FAWSsit™ models enables waste water removal while showering, so once the shower is completed there is no need to wait for drain pan emptying, unlike all other shower pan designs. The FAWSsit™ pump is custom-designed as well to rapidly remove the waste water, and to run safely wet or dry. A special filter mechanism designed into all FAWSsit showers ensures that no blockage will occur with the FAWSsit™ waste water removal pump.

FAWSsit-R3000 Recliner

Reclining Model

36″x76″36″
For use by individuals who require a reclining style wheelchair or gurney, and who require the assistance of a care attendant for bathing

Meets the needs of the High quadriplegic, CP and any medical condition requiring a tilt back shower wheelchair.
Only the FAWSsit™ R3000 Recliner has a double fold-away design which allows it to open to a full 74” in length to accommodate reclining wheelchairs and gurneys. But, when the showering is completed, this unit quickly folds flat to only 16” in depth for easy storage. The R3000 has the added feature of lower height to make care attendant access as easy and effective as possible. The 15 foot long hoses (or longer if requested) allow for full reach and access for bathing.

FAWSsit-T4000 Tall

Tall Model

36″x36″72″
For use by either able-bodied individuals or individuals with disabilities who can stand while bathing

Meets the needs of Emergency Services or HAZMAT and is wheelchair accessible.

The FAWSsit™ T4000 Tall shower is also an ideal alternative for use in homes that need a full shower stall, but do not have room for a permanent or even semi-permanent structure. The T4000 Tall shower, like all FAWSsit™ models, is shipped COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED, but folds flat to less than 8 inches in depth when showering is completed. This is a great alternative for cabins, basements, garages, or other locations where a shower is desired, but space is a concern. The T4000 shower is also fully accessible, so it can be used by both the able-bodied and disabled in a family.

For emergency services and hazardous materials decontamination, time is of the essence for getting a shower facility functional. This unit can be mounted, fully assembled, on the side of a fire truck, or stored in an emergency closet for immediate use when needed. Exposure to hazardous materials especially calls for IMMEDIATE decontamination and for containment of the waste water. ONLY FAWSsit™ portable showers enable this immediate use capability and waste water disposal system for easy bladder containment.

FAWSsit-B5000 Bariatric

Bariatric Model

46″x46″44″
For use by individuals up to 400 lbs, or who may require a slightly reclined wheelchair whose depth does not exceed 45″

Meets the needs of wheelchair users that require more space for larger size wheelchairs or special patient requirements.

The FAWSsit™ B5000 Bariatric is designed to offer all of the features and benefits of the S2000 Standard and the SS4040 Super Standard models, but gives added space to accommodate large sized wheelchairs, or even slightly tilted wheelchairs. With the B5000, even morbidly obese individuals are able to receive a safe, effective shower, and are able to easily reach all body parts with the customized shower head assembly. The slightly lower height, at 44”, enables care attendants better access when reaching in to the larger unit to assist with bathing. As with all FAWSsit™ models, the germicide-imbedded vinyl shower curtains can either be fully enclosed for privacy, or can be left open in front to best enable care attendant access. And, only FAWSsit™ portable showers have a triple layer, fiberglass-mesh imbedded waste water pan to hold up to multiple years of repeated roll in and roll out without breakdown or tearing. No “foam fatigue” occurs with the FAWSsit™ pan design, so water spillage is NOT a problem, as can happen with unsupported foam sided drain pans.

Safety and Quality of the FAWSsit™ Showers

The most critical requirements for bathing any individual with disabilities are SAFETY, bathing effectiveness and ease. The QUALITY and SAFETY features of the FAWSsit™ make this the best solution for bathing individuals who cannot remodel for accessibility.

PUMP

Only the FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers are patented and hold Underwriter Laboratories (UL) certification for safety of their custom pump.

What does this mean to the person who is using the FAWSsit™? It means that the risks of electrocution from pumps that are left on the floor or left free standing from the unit, or not tested and approved for safety are not a problem for the FAWSsit™.

Only the FAWSsit™ showers have custom-designed, frame-mounted pumps designed specifically to remove water from the waste pan as fast as it runs into the shower. Residual water is not an issue with the FAWSsit™. The pump runs while the shower is going on, then as soon as the shower is completed, the person can be rolled right out of the unit so they can get dried off and dressed without having to wait for a drain pan to empty.

Because UL requires both a Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) plug and a full 11 feet of cord, there is no concern for the cord or the plug being exposed to water, as there is with “off the shelf” pump systems.

And, the pump comes with a standard full one year warranty, which can be extended for an additional year for a small fee.

FRAME

The frame system for the FAWSsit™ showers is the top quality in the industry and represents another significant safety feature.

FAWSsit™ showers come completely assembled, so no tools are required. And, because the frames are constructed of anodized aluminum with marine-grade stainless steel connectors which are riveted and reinforced with strong corner gussets, these frames come with a full 10 year warranty. There are no screws to come loose or to work out of frames as occurs with PVC. And even though the FAWSsit frame is not intended to support lifting, in the event of a person leaning or pulling on the frame, it will not shatter or break like PVC.

With the unique, patented, folding frame design, only the FAWSsit™ requires NO CONSTRUCTION or assembly, and can be folded flat to only 8 inches for the Standard model for easy storage after each use.

SHOWER HEAD and HOSES

The shower head attachment and waste water return hoses come standard with a minimum of 10 feet of length to accommodate full body access, and plenty of hose length between the sink and the FAWSsit™ shower unit. No splicing or hose extensions are needed. If a client has a special requirement for longer hoses, the FAWSsit™ Portable Shower company will provide these for the client at no extra charge when the unit is purchased.

And only the FAWSsit™ showers provide for both hands-free and hand-held shower heads. For the individual capable of doing independent showering, a custom clip-on shower head arm holds the shower head in place on the frame, so that both hands can be free for shampooing or other showering activities. But if access to other body parts is difficult with a mounted shower head, the shower arm or just the shower head and hose can be easily removed from the frame so full body access can be accomplished without requiring any lifting or transferring or moving from the wheelchair.

Water temperature and flow can also be easily and safely controlled from the sink faucet. And only FAWSsit™ showers come standard with the most adaptable faucet connector which usually requires no adaptor for a faucet. In most cases where oversized faucets are in use, the adaptor which is shipped with all FAWSsit™ showers will enable easy attachment.

No plumber is required to set up or use a FAWSsit™ shower!

SHOWER PAN

Numerous other quality features are built into the patented FAWSsit™ design to ensure client safety. The water collection pan is made of a triple layer vinyl and fiberglass mesh with an imbedded foam wedge to ensure that there are no leaks, and no water escapes the pan when the shower is completed. The pan is also germicide-imbedded to prevent mildew, and it comes with simple-to-use Velcro straps to hold the pan in place with the frame to ensure that no water leaks occur from the pan. Along with the custom-designed, self-priming pump which can run wet or dry during the showering procedure, there is virtually no water build-up in the pan.

SHOWER CURTAINS

The shower curtains, too, are a heavy weight, germicide-imbedded vinyl which will last for years. These curtains are grommet-reinforced and can be easily removed and washed in a washing machine for continued long-term use. Replacement curtains are available, but FAWSsit™ curtains are in use by clients who have used their showers for over 7 years!

Only the FAWSsit™ is designed with the quality to be a true alternative to bathroom re-modeling, at 1/10th the cost!!

And most importantly, the FAWSsit™ is the ONLY portable shower which allows the client in a wheelchair the ability to stay safely seated in the wheelchair with no lifting or transferring required, and allows the client to simply roll in, shower, and roll back out without having to wait for frame set-up or waste water draining. Comfort, dignity, and safety are all provided by the FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers!!

What does “MADE IN THE USA” really mean?

The FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers are proud to fully comply with the U. S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requirements for “Made in the USA”.

Per their website, “The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is charged with preventing deception and unfairness in the marketplace. The FTC Act gives the Commission the power to bring law enforcement actions against false or misleading claims that a product is of U. S. origin.”

Unfortunately, many companies still claim to be in compliance when in fact many of their components are not made in our country; but the FAWSsit™ has made a concerted effort to ensure that its components and assembly are all fully in compliance with this legal requirement.

And, the FAWSsit™ Portable Shower company is a U. S. Veteran-owned business. As a service-connected disabled veteran, the owner of the FAWSsit™ Portable Showers takes special pride in providing the highest quality showering solution for not only his fellow veterans, but also for any senior or person with disabilities. His service to the United States of America has made him particularly focused on providing a fully compliant “Made in the USA” product, unlike companies who may use multiple “off-shore” elements or assembly organizations who attempt to plagiarize the “Made in the USA” status.

The FAWSsit™ Portable Shower company is also in full compliance with all U. S. Department of Revenue requirements and all other agencies appropriate to its operation.

Operation & Maintenance

The FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers require very little maintenance; however there are a few simple tasks which will keep the unit trouble free.

  1. Dry off the curtains before storing.
The shower curtains are made of vinyl which is imbedded with a germicide to resist mildew.  However, by simply using a small washrag or towel to remove the water droplets which remain after the shower is complete, there will be much less chance of mildew or mold forming.
  2. Empty and clean the drain pan after each use.
When the shower is complete, remove any remaining water in the drain pan by lifting the front of the drain pan to direct the water toward the filter bag at the rear of the pan so that the water can be sucked out by the pump. If there is any waste product, such as hair or residue, on the filter mesh, remove that with tissue and dispose.  Then use a small rag or towel to wipe any remaining water droplets.  The mesh filter over the suction hose is in place to keep hair or other objects from entering the pump.  For this reason, when suctioning the water from the pan, be sure to leave the suction hose INSIDE the mesh filter.
  3. Flatten the pans and curtain when folding to prevent kinks or pinching of the pan or curtains.
Sides of the shower pan will fold in as the pan is lifted and attached to the back of the shower frame with the Velcro® strip.  Ensuring that these sides are flat will make closing the frame easier and will protect the pan. The curtains should hang straight without kinks when the shower stall is closed for storage.  This will help protect the curtain from damage and from potential mildew formation.
  4. Store power cord in hanging bag or clean, dry area.
Do not allow power cord to get wet.
  5. Rinse the shower system with a disinfectant at least once a month.
To ensure that the entire shower system remains clean, pour approximately two gallons of hot water mixed with one cup of chlorine bleach into the drain pan of the FAWSsit shower.  Use this solution with a cleaning rag to wipe down the frame and curtains of the shower stall.  Then slosh the bleach solution around inside the waste water pan to make sure that all of the surface inside the pan is exposed to the bleach solution.  Then start the pump and run the cleaning solution out through the pump and down the drain.  This will make sure that all of the drain hoses as well as the pump are cleaned of germs or mildew.
  6. Turn off the pump when the shower is not in use.
Although the FAWSsit waste water removal pump is designed to run without a continuous flow of water, it is best to turn it off when there is no water running or water to pump out of the drain pan.  When a shower is completed, it is safe to leave the pump running for a few minutes to remove any residual water, but it is suggested that the pump not be left running for extended periods of time once the water has been removed.
  7. Place towels on the floor outside of the shower stall
The FAWSsit portable shower stall is designed for use in any room, and is designed to keep the water contained in the unit until it is pumped out and disposed of properly.  However, if the shower head is not aimed inside the shower unit, overspray accidents can happen.  And, wheelchair wheels can hold a little water from the showering.  If they are not dried off before the wheelchair is rolled out of the unit, there can be some water tracks from the water that remains on the wheels. To prevent any floor damage, or slipping potential, place towels or a mat around and in front of the shower.  If any overspray or retained water on the wheels gets outside the shower stall, it will much easier to clean up with the towels or mats already in place.
  8. Call us if you have questions or concerns about the maintenance or operation of your FAWSsit portable shower.
The FAWSsit Fold Away Wheelchair Shower is designed to be easy and safe to use as well as easy and safe to maintain.  But, with the use of common sense and these basic tips and precautions, potential problems can easily be avoided.  If you encounter a problem, or have any questions on the use or maintenance of the FAWSsit, FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US here at com

Quality work

testimonial-rating

Stairbusters did excellent work. The installers were very thoughtful, considerate and did an excellent job. The pricing was good. We had some of this type of thing installed in Arizona and I would say that the cost was comparable to that.
